Weezer release "Beverly Hills," first single off upcoming Make Believe
Weezer has remained a firm staple in the music biz ever since the beloved days of the Blue album, back in 1994 when alternative rock was the popular music.Tthe band cultivated that alt-pop sound on three proceeding albums (Pinkerton, Green album, Maladroit), creating emo along the way and influencing bands like Phantom Planet and Dashboard Confessional. Playing Maladroit's long-awaited follow-up, Weezer will release Make Believe in May, the band's first new release in three years.
The album's first single is "Beverly Hills," a great pop anthem merging into the same euphoric wit and humor of old school Weezer's "Buddy Holly." Rivers Cuomo uses a rhyming style like Cake's John McCrea on the track, playing revenge of the nerds on the disenchanted MTV generation.
The new video, which was shot at the Playboy Mansion, premieres this week on MTV2 and MTV's Making the Video. Weezer is hitting the road this April, hitting 2005 Coachella early on in the tour, in support of the new record.
